Weekly Photo Challenge – Ornate

In your photo this week, share something unabashedly ornate — where it’s clear that the creators pulled no stops and went all out. Whether it’s a breathtaking triumph or a total train wreck, I can’t wait to see what you come up with.

Ok, so this is definitely ornate,  even if the photography is a bit dodgy. I took a picture of this Tamil temple in the city of Galle in Sri Lanka in the summer. It was being rebuilt and you can see the new work is in the more yellowish stonework. It is great to see that such skill still exists.

When the temple has been built it will be painted in very bright colours, but I like to appreciate the stonework before it is painted, somehow the bright painted figures almost detracts from the artistry of the stonemasons.
