30 Minute Warning (100 words)

He’s gonna kill again,” she sobbed. “Hurry, there’s not much time!”

Detective Markovitz rubbed his grizzled jaw and reached for his notebook. “OK, when and where?” he growled, shaking the fog of sleep from his weary mind.

“Look, there’s a light on the sixth floor.” Detective Pierce pointed with two stained fingers, cigarette pinched between them. Markovitz’ gaze followed the amber glow to where light streamed from an opening to be swallowed by the night.  A silhouette swept across the window and something large fell silently to the street.

  1. Great, imaginative take on the prompt. It must be frustrating to know about things to happen and not be able to prevent them.

  2. I had many, many directions I wanted to go with this photo prompt. I chose a police story because it tends to be a favorite for most readers. This story is wonderfully written for that as it crosses over to all of those readers who enjoy this genre. Well done, from beginning to end.
