Think Happy Thoughts (100 words)
Copyright – Douglas M. MacIlroy
When the generator failed Howard put on his coat and lit some candles. Was that howling outside just the wind clawing and scratching at the shelter, or the angry cries of the fell beasts laying siege to his refuge?
He peeled the skin from his cocoa and took a measured sip, acutely aware that it might be his last. The crash of broken glass from beyond the security door confirmed his suspicions. He picked up his tablet and fixed his gaze on the soothing image before him. As the buckling door gave way he just concentrated harder:
Think happy Thoughts.
Dear JWD,
Thinking Happy Thoughts here. The power of positive thinking. He doesn’t mind and it doesn’t matter.

Sounds like Howard’s really been through it and at last he realises it’s hopeless and has gained acceptance of his impending death. Nice story!

Didn’t he even consider turning to fight? I mean, if he thinks he’s done for, why not go down fighting?

James, Good story and well written. If I lived in a place like that I’d have a couple shotguns at the ready. The heck with happy thoughts. I believe in the John Wayne philosophy. If you have to go down, go down fighting. 🙂 —Susan

I agree with Susan, I’d go down fighting and shoot them with water darts – that should do the trick – or maybe a real gun. Yuck – Fight or Flight? Flight or Fight? Flight wins – I’ll take portal #2 please.
Nan 🙂
